Hydrogen Peroxide As A Bleach Alternative

I hope to take a photo when I get a chance, but I had to tell you all about how wonderful alternative cleaners can be. The only things we keep in the house for cleaning are:

  • Vinegar
  • Baking Soda
  • Washing Soda
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Borax
  • Good old fashioned elbow grease 😉
  • Fels Naptha for homemade laundry detergent
  •

We like to avoid chemicals and toxins wherever we can. I believe I am still suffering from chemical overload after working with chemicals for four years.

Anyways… If you are looking for a safe bleach alternative go to hydrogen peroxide. We buy it in bulk at Sam’s Club and use it for disinfecting counters and sinks, bleaching laundry and now bleaching our tub. After the birth of our son 5 weeks ago I took numerous herbal baths to aid in healing myself and the baby’s umbilical cord. After two births and two babies with umbilical cords I can tell you those baths work amazingly well. They do, however, make your tub look like you have been taking mud baths instead of herbal baths.

I tried scrubbing it the other day to no avail. So I whipped out the peroxide and emptied an entire bottle into a tub full of water. I didn’t even wipe it down, but when I drained the tub the brown/black herbal stains were completely gone. I was so thankful. So ditch the bleach and reach for the peroxide, ladies!

  1. How do you use it for bleach in laundry? I use washing soda and lemon juice they work great. But still the deordorant leaves a yellow stain after awhile on my white undershirts. I wonder it peroxide would work for that?

  2. I know you have a lot going on and this post was a long time ago but I am doing some research on homemade laundry detergents and I see you have Fels Naptha listed here- I was wondering if you still recommend that. Seems as though it has some conflicting reviews on the safety of the product and I am pretty much just confused at this point. Any help would be great, thank you.
