What Real Food Bloggers Really Eat: Kelly The Kitchen Kop

Last week when I published a food journal I received a lot of questions and comments, which I found very helpful. I started to wonder what the other real food bloggers out there ate, since real food can be done in a variety of ways.

So I am happy to introduce to you a new series chronicling food journals from real food bloggers around the web. What Real Food Bloggers Really Eat starts today with Kelly the Kitchen Kop.

Kelly has been blogging about “politically incorrect” health & nutrition topics on Kelly the Kitchen Kop since January of 2008. She has passionately researched how to eat better and live better since discovering the Weston A. Price Foundation in 2004. Kelly also enjoys the opportunity to speak to groups about these issues, and to help individuals become healthier through one-on-one consultations.

Q: Do you have any dietary restrictions or special circumstances that we should be aware of?

A: I have no special dietary restrictions except I’m always watching my carb intake (so the pounds don’t creep on), and not always successfully!

I’ll share what I ate today:

  • Breakfast – 1 egg fried in bacon grease with an extra yolk in there because I love the yolk and they’re so nutritious.  A cup of regular coffee, which I looooooooooove.
  • Lunch – Skipped it because I ate a late breakfast and the eggs filled me up.  Also I knew we were having a huge dinner!
  • Dinner – We made a yummy turkey dinner.  The turkey was from the store, unfortunately, but it was free.  We made potato wedges to go with it (organic), homemade stuffing (the best part and not exactly low-carb, eh?), and lots of gravy from the drippings.  I had frozen some extra fermented cranberry sauce the last time I made it so we had that too and it’s ever the perfect compliment with each bite of turkey.  Not to mention the extra digestion boost it gives with our meal. We also drank raw milk with our dinner.

Thank you for sharing your food journal, Kelly!

  1. Oh I always like seeing what other real foodies are eating. Fermented cranberry sauce sounds really interesting. I might just have to try making some for my next turkey dinner.

Btw did you mean a free range turkey or a free turkey. I would love to know which store gave out free turkey!

  2. I love eggs for breakfast! But wow Kelly! I’ve had gastric bypass and eat way more than that! Do you normally only eat twice a day? I feel like I’m eating all day long.

  3. Sounds delicious. I never thought of adding more yolk – my favorite yummy part, too.
I made a frittata that will last 5 or 6 days with an onion, red pepper, stems from the greens, cinnamon and a spice mix of tarragon, thyme, sage etc., a pound of gf ground beef, the greens mix from our CSA , and 14 eggs. Yes, we had company for breakfast.

  4. I would keel over and collapse if I ate only one egg for breakfast. I am a celiac and dairy intolerant, but here goes:

Breakfast: Big bowl of two kinds of rice cereal with 1Tbls. of rice protein added plus a few almonds, stevia and almond milk and a handful of dried organic peach chunks. One big cup of green tea with a ginger tea bag added.

Lunch: One cooked egg, 2 strips bacon, grilled potato slices, 2 tomato slices & 3 orange slices. Big pot of green tea with mint bag added. (local restaurant)

Dinner: Organic boiled potatoes, steamed organic brocolli & asparagus, free range chicken breast, organic strawberries with agave syrup, fermented organic kim chi (made by me) fruit sorbet for dessert.

I have been going to Weight Watchers for years and keeping track of everything I eat. Have kept the weight off for four years now and intend to keep it that way. I usually have organic veggies, soup, etc. for lunch but yesterday was unusual.
