Today we continue taking a sneak peek at what real food lovers really eat. Ann Marie of Cheeseslave was one of the first online contacts I made in the real food world. She is a mama, an avid cook, and founder of Real Food Media. She is also on a preconception diet that seems like just the thing for mamas.

A little about Ann Marie’s preconception diet:

I am preparing for another pregnancy — plan to get pregnant within the next year. So I’m eating liver 2-3 times a week (usually liverwurst or pate but sometimes beef liver or chicken liver), eating eggs daily or every other day, lots of grass-fed butter, cream, cheese, raw milk, raw kefir and homemade raw yogurt, and lots of fermented cod liver oil. I need to start back on the butter oil. I’ve also been eating natto at least once a month (I eat it with egg yolk, kimchi and salmon roe). I also eat fish, particularly shellfish (clams, oysters, mussels, shrimp) as often as possible — usually once or twice a week. Now that salmon roe season is coming (we can buy salmon roe at the farmer’s market in season), I’ll be stockpiling that and eating it frequently. My favorite way to eat it is on deviled eggs.

Sunday

Brunch:
  • 1 cup coffee with raw milk and cream
  • Sprouted French toast with pastured bacon (French Toast: Alvarado St. sprouted bread dredged in raw cream & pastured eggs, fried in grass-fed butter, served w/ more butter and maple syrup)
Dinner:
Today we went on a farm tour at Healthy Family Farms, a sustainable farm in Santa Paula, 2 hours away from our home in LA. They raise happy, healthy cows, goats, pigs, turkeys, chickens, ducks, rabbits, sheep, horses and emus. It’s an amazing place! We ate: Pastured BBQ chicken and beef, baked beans, potato salad, sprouted flour tortillas made w/ coconut oil (I made them), and I had a big glass of raw kefir and some cucumber water.

After Dinner:
  • 2 glasses organic Sauvignon Blanc
  • A small piece of Wasa whole wheat sourdough cracker with Kerrygold grass-fed cheddar
  • 4 fermented cod liver oil gummy fish
Before Bed:

Interesting to see the 1 cup of raw milk before bed. I’m not drinking it yet, but have a cow-share starting soon here so I will be trying it.

Jana – US Wellness meats uses grass-finished liverwurst. If they are not on my resources page try googling them.
