Scenes From Our Weekend

After a few weeks of longer than usual work days, two weeks of the papa being hit with a respiratory illness, and a few weekends of not enough rest we were so ready for this weekend. There was…

We are so thankful for the blessings of a day to rest and a Sunday to catch up on chores and the great exodus of stuff that has begun.

What are you doing this weekend?

    1. Renee – Um, yes (sheepishly) ;). When my husband fell ill a couple weeks ago I definitely became more flexible and dependent on fresh foods. Plus I am testing recipes for the spring cookbook so I am in need of a few extra things here and there, and coincidentally many of the recipes are turning out to be vegetarian and vegan. And I just really, really like grapefruit :).

  1. Why hand sewing? I’ve been thinking about trying this, now that my sewing machine is out of order and I need to make curtains. But how? Is it worth it?

    1. Jenny – I actually do have a machine, but don’t know how to use it very well and like the process and meditation that hand sewing brings. Right now I am just doing napkins, but a simple skirt is in the works as well. It certainly takes more time, but I’m not that convinced that that is a bad thing.

  2. This weekend we moved 1/2 of the dump truck load of garden soil into our new raised garden beds. The rest is going to be moved to our new potato patch once we finish the retaining wall. We also pruned our raspberries and cleaned out the chicken coop. It wasn’t really warm, but it wasn’t raining so it was nice to get ourselves and kids out of the house and into the fresh air.

  3. I hand sew for the same reason I like to use spindles. It’ s portable. I don’t have to spend time digging out the machine and setting it up. I can just spend my time sewing. I have actually been sewing with my machine lately. I still enjoy doing things by hand.
