from the road :: the bittersweet of leaving

As we travel across this land to our new home it is only now sinking in all that is ahead and all that we leave behind.

This place we leave is where our youngest son was born – on our bed – one August morning. It is where both of our boys learned to take their first steps. It is where we learned to cultivate both plants and our familial relationships with one another.

As we make stops along the way we say good-bye to family, close and distant, who helped raise us.

We leave behind a place and a way of life that is all we have ever known in our 30-or-so odd years.

We look forward to starting anew on this new land in this new place with these new people, all of which I am sure we love already.

But it is all so bittersweet. Nothing will ever be the same and that is somehow so exciting.

But it is also so, so sad.

  2. God Speed and Angels protect you and yours! I see the kitten, is s/he going with you, I hope so, for a young one to carry with them something that gives them love and reminds them of their old security and loving home, is what is right with the world – we carry with us so much in our memories and hearts – but to carry a little fuzzy one in our arms is concrete proof that love continues…

I can’t wait to hear how your trip and settling in goes – know that I remember you in my prayers and thoughts – and my sense of adventure goes with you, as only a little old gramma can (LOL)…

  3. Wishing you a safe trip and smooth time settling in…excited to read your posts about your new life in the days ahead.

  4. I’ve been following your blog for several months now, ever since my husband found the French lentil soup recipe and we got Simple Foods for Winter.

I just wanted to speak a word of encouragement to you… that God has got a hold of you and all the rest is details. When fear comes, it’s an opportunity to trust. When all doors seem closed, it’s an opportunity to trust. He has all that you will ever need, and He loves the desires of your heart — after all, He made you and so He made them. You and your husband are setting off on a great adventure… you remind me of Abraham and Sarah. They didn’t know how they would provide for their family either, but they trusted the word of the Lord.

Peace, dear sister. He’s got you.

    Fondly…
