Welcoming Joshua

It has been a full week now since we welcomed Joshua Ryan into our arms and into our hearts. It probably speaks to his longer labor and final entrance with gusto that this post has been on hold during these early days.

One of the most exciting moments for me is when the older children meet their long-awaited baby sibling. These boys are thrilled with the fact that baby is now known to be baby boy. Annie is in full little mothering mode while Ruthie continues to tag along, interjecting her joy and chaos with flare. Daddy and the community have been caring for all of us while Mama is soaking in all of the Joshua snuggles that are a side benefit to what may be a longer recovery time.

He is a gift, this sweet little bundle, and we thank the Lord for allowing us to love and care for him. It is a miracle and a blessing, every single time.

  10. Congratulations to your whole family!
I just wanted to encourage you, in case you may need it, that my sixth labour and delivery was really long and hard, which came as a shock after my fifth was like a dream! It does not reflect, however, on how your next one will go, either, as seen by a couple of my sisters in Christ who’ve experienced a tough middle child labour, but went on to have easier births with subsequent babies.
We seem to be done at six, but that has more to do with my age, and the Lord’s timing, more than anything else, not because we were finished our childbearing either emotionally or in principle. We’re grateful for our six, and if it’s His will, I pray a blessing on your next baby to come quickly and delightfully. Blessings as you settle in to your new normal!
