The Doable Off-Grid Homestead: Now Available for Pre-Order

There is no one right way to homestead; that much I have learned in six years. There are a plethora of circumstances folks bring with them when they endeavor to live on and from the land. Certainly our own situation was not all that unique, moving across country with two young children and another on the way. Six-and-a-half years, three more babies, a whole bunch of farm animals, and some gray hairs later and we’re sharing more of the details of our journey with you all.

In our upcoming book The Doable Off-Grid Homestead we share what has worked for us in building this little homestead of ours. Stewart wrote of his work in harnessing solar power, catching and utilizing rainwater, building infrastructure, and more. Together we wrote of our approach to gardening in harsh conditions, tending animals, and some of the domestic aspects to living off-grid. All of these chapters are with an eye towards staying out of debt and building a homestead with reusable materials, from scratch.

We’ve hauled water and installed gravity-fed water directly into our kitchen and bathroom. We’ve watered the garden with buckets from the pond and installed a no-batteries required solar pump. We’ve tried various gardening approaches and finally hit on one that made the biggest difference for our soil. In short, we’ve failed, learned a whole lot through that process, and eventually were brought to game-changing solutions that have furthered our sustainability goals.

This book is full of these solutions, the humbling lessons we have learned along the way, and many options for building your own off-grid, debt-free homestead. The Doable Off-Grid Homestead is available for pre-order now and will be in book stores starting in July.
