January Postcards

I don’t really know what happened to January. We started digging up the potato field. We had a lot of cozy evenings by the wood stove. We did a lot of addition and long division and multiplying fractions alongside reading and penmanship and english.

I finally got around to planting broccoli starts which have still yet to sprout.

But we were able to make broccoli sprouts for which you can find the full tutorial here.

Working on fence is fun for everyone, especially when these two are working together. And I am pretty sure this boy grew an inch last week alone.

And apparently he liked the look of these Gluten-Free Oatmeal Muffins enough to give them a sniff. I am still working on that recipe but these Vegan Sweet Potato Spelt Muffins are up and ready.

So I guess that brings us to the end of January!

  1. I love the pictures of your children. January has not ended fast enough for us. We bought our weekend fixer-up last year and moved in before we had it rewired, the floors finished (new subfloors but no hardwood on top), and gaps and I mean gaps throughout the house. We moved in Feb., 2018 and thought it was cold living without heat. LOL. Well, we do have the house rewired but still don’t have a heating or air unit. These cold, cold, cold nights when we went into single digits liked to have killed us. We did get an electric blanket which has kept us warm while we are in bed but the rest of the time, we wear coats and gloves. Today, we are seeing temperatures in the mid 60s so I am coming out of the long johns, five shirts, logging pants and boots, coat and gloves, and I am working in my garden. I’m sure you know how exciting is to smell and feel the earth after months of being too cold to even carry composting material to the compost pile. We are getting some hens our friend rescued so today my husband is building a couple more nesting boxes and our little mail order eggs are staying warm in our homemade incubator and there are little chips being made so today we will probably have a few of the chicks to put in their rubbermaid container. Spring is good and its promise of growth and life sure makes up for the cold, dark winters. Have fun today with the children.
