Giveaway: Water Kefir, Milk Kefir, & Your Choice of Culture Starters

I don’t believe that everyone can eat the same thing and be healthy. I don’t believe that everyone needs the same ratio of carbs to fat to carbohydrates. I just think that every body has unique needs based on nationality and previous history.

The one thing I think is universal is that everyone can benefit from fermented foods. You can eat yogurt, milk kefir, water kefir, kombucha, sourdough bread, raw cheese, or lacto-fermented vegetables. In every case, the culturing process seems to take whatever nutrients are in that food to begin with to a whole new level of nourishment.

So today I am excited to give away a few culture starters that can help you turn good foods into great nourishment. Cultures for Health is giving one reader a starter for milk kefir, water kefir and your choice of:

  • Yogurt Starter. Choose a mesophilic or thermophilic culture and start making raw milk yogurt.
  • Sourdough Starter.
  • Kombucha Starter
  • Buttermilk Starter.

  1. I just entered for the giveaway. It’s a great idea, especially for those of us who might be a little nervous about getting started.

  2. Just entered – I have all the cultures but the buttermilk one, but from what I’ve heard, the ones from CFH are superior to pretty much any others… It would be great to compare! Thanks for the giveaway, ladies!

  3. Thanks for this giveaway! I just entered my name. I’ve been wanting to try making Kombucha for ages.

  4. !!!!! Great giveaway! I never win anything, but I keep hoping that my luck will change, and this would be the best time for it to do so, because I am in desperate (desperate I tell you!) need of a kombucha culture… sadly, mine didn’t survive the move. Water and milk kefir starters would be welcome as well (my kefir also didn’t make the move, and I’ve never tried water kefir before), but I’m really excited to possibly win a kombucha starter… I was about to try to grow my own from a bottle of commercial kombucha. So fingers crossed!

  5. I entered. Great giveaway! The key to health is in the gut. I truly believe that if everyone ate more fermented foods regularly that there would be less sickness in our country.

  6. What a great giveaway! I would love to win this, as I just had to throw out my kefir grains (they had been stored improperly and grew mold)

  7. I make dairy kefir all the time! If I go a few days without having some then I just feel off.

I entered the giveaway on the Cultures site.

    Thanks for the giveaway

  8. I would love this!! I tried making yogurt the other day with the starter from Cultures of Health. Unfortunately we had an emergency and I wasn’t able to care for it the way I needed to with the method I used. I would probably get another yogurt starter or maybe even the buttermilk one. Thanks for this opportunity.

  9. I just entered the contest- thank you for alerting us to it! And thank you for your wonderful blog. To your health!

  10. Thanks for a great giveaway!! I’ve been wanting to try some water kefir, and milk kefir is always great.

  11. Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I entered the giveaway. My kids are having health problems and my search for answers lead me to this wonderful website. When dealing with medically unknown health issues it is very discouraging and emotional. Your site has been very empowering and is truly inspirational. I have tried several of your recipes and my kids LOVE them I just located a source for raw milk from pastured cows and will be going Saturday to pick up my first gallon of raw milk. I am SO excited. It’s pricy at $8 a gallon, but being SO nutritious it’s worth it. I have been trying to add cultured and fermented foods to our diet. It is all so expensive here in Washington State (a pint of organic but not raw milk kefir is $5!). My kids are SO hungry for all the nourishing foods I can’t keep up. That is why I have entered this amazing giveaway – please pick me. I would be SO happy with milk and water Kefir. And I can almost smell the fresh baked sourdough (smothered with home made raw milk butter!). I’ll keep my fingers crossed, and if I could cross my toes I would do that also. Sorry for the long post… I get chatty when I’m excited. 🙂

  13. Naturally occuring probiotics is the way to go! I really hope I can learn more about culturing my foods, and this site will definitely help!

  14. I just entered your giveaway. I’ve made kefir before using a powder starter. I’m really just learning all about this stuff. My two daughters and I are battling chronic Lyme disease so probiotics are a must! I’m thinking kefir would be much easier and better than pill form probiotics. Thanks for your blog!
